education 1989-92. There I majored in biology as well as philosophical
studies.

degree in May, 1997. UTSWMS is ranked as among the top ten medical
schools in the United States, home to four Nobel prize winners, and along
with the faculty of Parkland Hospital, home to the original publication
of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine (The faculty
at Southwestern continue to be major contributors to the current edition
of Harrison’s as well as to countless other journals and texts).

Molecular Biology Research Summer
1993 I was involved in research in developing a probe for detecting
the mRNA of tumor necrosis factor in clonal lines of ovarian tumor cells.
This was done in the department of Gynecological Oncology under my mentors
Dr. Michael Mathis and Dr. David Miller at UTSWMS.

American Health Professions Organization A campus student social and
professional organization at UT at Austin. It promotes interests in the
health professions among students of Hispanic ethnicity. I served as treasurer
from 1991-92 and was co-winner of the “Member of the Year” award for 1992.

(LASO)
at Southwestern Medical school 1992-1997.

Texas Association of Latin American
Medical Students Vice President for 1994-95 (TALAMS) - a state wide
organization of student representatives from all seven Texas medical schools.

Leader of the Texas delegation of
the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) in its lobbying efforts
on Capital Hill for health care reform during its 1995 annual meeting in
Washington DC.
Interests and Non-medical
Activities:

General Aviation Private Pilot’s
License (single engine, fixed wing, land aircraft). Earned in 1987
while training at Brownsville/South Padre International Airport.

Multi-engine rating Earned in
1988 while working for M and S Aviation at Brownsville, TX. I hope
to continue my training in instrument flight (possibly earning a commercial
license in the near future).

Resources Involved with computers since the “dark ages” before MS Windows,
I have designed several web pages and continue to strive to develop and
promote the Internet as a valuable and interactive source of general medical
information.

Future Plans:

I am very interested in practicing
medicine as a "hospitalist" and managing medical patients on
the regular nursing floors, telemetry, and in the intensive care unit.
Throughout my education in medical school and residency, I have enjoyed
interacting with and teaching students and residents, and am also interested
in continuing this through affiliation with an academic hospital-based
